The phrase "If you build it, they will come" absolutely describes
FFASA's success in the weeks following its creation. In less than 8
weeks, FFASA has spearheaded an unprecedented public dialogue on the
issue of prosecutor turnover both state-wide and locally.
Click
here to read The Florida Bar News article on FFASA. This article
serves as the official presentation of our organization to all
attorneys through Florida. The article included FFASA's website
address and has expanded our ability to reach, educate, and recruit
fellow attorneys. As of today, only 3 days after the article was
published, dozens of attorneys through the state have already
subscribed to this e- newsletter.
FFASA scored two early successes in its effort to engage the
media in a public dialogue on the issue of prosecutor turnover. The
first success is the article printed in the Sun-Sentinel titled
Turnover of state attorneys soaring. Click
here to read the article This article is the result of FFASA's
press release. This article engaged former prosecutors, Broward's
Office of the State Attorney, the judiciary, and even the Public
Defender's Office, in a conversation on prosecutor turnover. The
second success is that yesterday, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel
Editorial Board, gave an opinion on prosecutor turnover and
recommended the same solutions advanced by FFASA. Click
here to read the Editorial And we're just getting started!
FFASA has formulated a strategy to achieve effective legislation
in Tallahassee. On May 31, 2006, FFASA's Board of Directors approved
a resolution that creates a Legislative Committee vested with the
responsibility of drafting a legislative initiative and designing a
plan to engage legislators in Tallahassee. Click
here to read the resolution. This represents FFASA's call to
action and its absolute commitment to reducing turnover.
Prosecutor turnover is an issue of public safety and should
be taken seriously. It affects every person who sets foot in this
state. Please join us in this unprecedented grassroots effort to
make Florida safer. We cannot carry the torch without your support.
Please spread the word to family, friends, and co-workers and
encourage them to become members, sponsors, supporters, or to simply
make a donation. If you are a member of a community organization, we
would love to address your membership at your next meeting or
function. Thank you for taking a stand and joining FFASA!
